Year 11
GCSE Triple Science unit results August 2009
The results give a UMS mark (unified marking scale) These UMS scores from the 3 papers (max 100) and the ISAs (max 100) for each subject will be added together next August to give the final UMS for the subject with the following conversion, A*- 360, A - 320, B - 280, C - 240, D - 200.
As students have completed only 1/3 of the papers the following gives an indication of the result the students are on track for if they continued to perform equally in all subsequent units and coursework;
A* - 90, A - 80, B - 70, C - 60, D - 50
Science teachers will be speaking to classes early this term and it will be pointed out to students that these are not the grades they have got so far, and that they can improve on these in future units.
We are advising against re-sits in January as they will be in the same session as their second units, and to wait and see how students do then. If they perform much better in unit 2 then a re-sit can be entered for in June. This is later than the other science units and many of the other GCSE exams and feel that this would allow students to concentrate on the other Science units/papers and to maximise their performance in those.
