Applications to Irish Universities

Application to Irish Universities is very straightfoward and allows students another set of choices to higher education.  The system of application is very similar to UCAS but the method of selection is very different.

Students should apply using the Central Admissions Office website - www.cao.ie.  There is a search function for choosing the appropriate course and a relevant university.  It is wise to check where the universities are, since some colleges are in rather remote locations.

Decisions on admissions are based on actual A Level results, so students will find out whether the have a place in August after the results have been published.  In 2007, a student gained a place at Trinity College, Dublin to read medicine.

The standard of university education in Ireland is very high and it represents the chance to study abroad at very reasonable cost.  In many cases, tuition fees are lower in the Irish republic than they are in the UK.
