Training School

Training School Status was awarded to AHS in 2006 as the school's second specialism because AHS is a high achieving school. The work of the Training School is monitored by the Teacher Development Agency and certain performance indicators are reviewed annually. The Training School has a responsibility to support trainee teachers and works with a number of providers to develop the teachers of the future. In doing so the school benefits from having additional staff and from the contribution of new methodologies being developed.

We continue to work with our own staff to ensure they have quality training as we strive constantly to update expertise to benefit our students. Work within school involves supporting teachers new to the profession and those who have recently taken on responsibility. Leadership training is vital to ensure standards are maintained and that the skills of management are developed. This year we have extended this training to those members of the sixth from who have been elected to office and will have to conduct meetings and organise events.

As all schools, we rely on our support staff to carry out administrative tasks and the Training School has ensured they have the opportunity to update their skills and support in developing the working of effective teams.

The Training School has an obligation to support the professional development of staff in the area and during 2007-8 we will be working with the Bucks Local Authority to extend support for school staff.

Planning and developing the work of the Training School is the responsibility of one of the school's deputy head teachers and  regular progress meetings are held with staff, the external adviser the head teacher and a link governor, who reports regularly to the full governing body on the work undertaken.
