Schoolcomms E-mail Test for Year 7 Parents

Apologies to all parents who were expecting a test e-mail from us on Tuesday 31 August.  Due to changes to our school network over the summer, this test has been delayed.  We are hoping to send a test e-mail out over the next few days.

PRESS RELEASE - GCSE Results 2010

These are very good results, with 70% of the GCSEs being awarded A* or A grades. The average points per student is 558, an impressive performance, so my congratulations to everyone for their hard work. The success is a team effort involving students, teachers, support staff and parents, and it is worth mentioning that secondary schools rely heavily on the good work done in primary schools every year.

38 students gained only A* or A grades in their GCSEs, with four students (Urwah Ahmed, Christina Hood, Jessi Wells and Rebecca Whiteman) managing to get an A* in every single subject. Ten students also gained good results in either AS Statistics or A Level World Development.

Looking at individual subjects, particular mention should be made of Biology, Design Technology, Geography, History, Maths and Music, where at least 80% of students gained A* or A grades.

Our Year 10 students also did really well in their GCSE Science exams, with 85% gaining an A* or A grade.

 PRESS RELEASE - A Level Results 2010

“I am very proud of the results achieved this year. Despite the questions in the media about the standards of A Levels, every student will confirm how hard they need to work to gain the highest grades.

There are many outstanding individual performances and, even with the much publicised shortage of university places this year, the vast majority of our students have achieved the results they need to take up their chosen course.  Congratulations to everyone for their hard work.”

Alan Rosen
Headteacher

The 194 students who took A Levels this year were the first to follow new exam syllabuses, with the introduction of the new A* grade, which is awarded to students who consistently achieve the highest standards at A Level. We are pleased that 14% of our results are A*s and, overall, 51% of our results are at least A grades.

68 students (35%) gained at least three A grades at A Level and 17 gained at least four A grades.  Special mention must go to Ruth Bryson and Rosie Flitney, who both achieved four A* grades at A level.  Eight students will be taking up well-deserved places at Oxford or Cambridge and 17 students have gained places on very competitive courses to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine.

Twins Helena and Rebecca Miles managed to get identically excellent results, with an A* and two A grades at A Level, 2 A grades at AS and an A* in the Extended Project. This year, for the first time, the Extended Project Qualification was successfully completed by 24 students as a key part of the newly introduced AQA Baccalaureate, recognising students who have genuine breadth and depth in their studies as well as undertaking community service; Aylesbury High School has been used as a model of good practice by the exam board.
